I have known Tarah & Ray for two years now and was so excited when they agreed to feature their beautiful engagement photos by Andrew Geddes of Ottawa’s Union Eleven on Satin & Snowflakes. When Tarah told me the story of how Ray proposed to her, I knew I had to share it right away:
How They Met
Ray and I met when we were both in Toronto for school. Ray was in his last year of Electrical Engineering at the University of Toronto and I was in my first year of Interior Design at Ryerson University. We met one night at a small cafe and ended up talking quite a bit about our families. I remember thinking how nice It was to meet such a genuine guy in such a big city. A week later we went out on our first date and have now been together for over 6 years!
A Unique Proposal
Ray’s proposal was incredibly special! He proposed at the end of March last year on a surprise trip to New York City. We arrived in NYC on Saturday morning and checked into a beautiful hotel. He arranged for me to meet up with a good friend to try on bridesmaid dresses for her wedding, but made me promise that I would be ready at 5pm for some type of event. When I was with my girlfriend, I asked her if she had any idea what we would be doing and she suggested that maybe Ray was taking me on a boat tour since he was so concerned with time (the funny thing about this is that she knew he was proposing! And no, it wasn’t a boat tour…). At 5pm we were back at the hotel ready to go and Ray took me to Central Park. He walked me to the Bethesda Fountain, sat next to me on the ledge and said the most beautiful things before he got down on his knee and asked me to marry him. He then arranged for an amazing dinner at a French restaurant and we had a great time reflecting on what we’ve done and all the great things we will be doing together in our future. It was just so special. There is no other way to describe it.
About the Wedding Plans
Ray and I can’t wait to have all of our family and friends in one place! Our wedding is on Canada Day weekend here in Ottawa at the Chateau Laurier. Since Ray is from Alberta, we wanted the wedding to be downtown so guests can enjoy all the great activities that will be taking place in our Capital. Ray and I are pretty easygoing, so while we love the ornate detailing inside the Chateau, we’re going to be bringing in a few complementary elements that add some freshness and personality. We’re working with Marry Me Productions and have absolute faith that the day will go off without a hitch! We can’t wait to celebrate!
